Geschichtliche Hintergründe

Moosach is one of Munich’s oldest districts and was first mentioned in historical records in 807. The district takes its name from the Moosach River, which is now known as the Feldmochinger Bach. In 1892, Moosach was connected to the railway network, leading to the establishment of industrial enterprises and residential developments. The district was incorporated into the city of Munich in 1913. Significant urban development in Moosach began after the Second World War.

Location

Moosach is located in the northwest of Munich and is bordered by the Mittlerer Ring to the east, the marshalling yard area to the north, Waldhornstraße to the west, and the Westfriedhof to the south. The district is very well connected by public transport, including the U1 and U3 subway lines, an S-Bahn line, a tram line, and several bus routes.

Moosach today

Today’s Moosach is characterized by single-family homes, row houses, and smaller apartment buildings, resulting in a lower residential density compared to inner-city areas. In the eastern part of the district, development becomes denser, particularly due to the Olympia Press City and housing complexes from the interwar period. Moosach offers numerous shopping opportunities, such as the Olympia Shopping Center (OEZ), and is also well-developed commercially.

    .
